Lip Dermal Filler – Kempsey Dental Centre
1. What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable gels that contain hyaluronic acid – a substance naturally found in the human body. Approximately half of the body’s hyaluronic acid is located in the skin. Lip fillers are a specific type of dermal filler used to temporarily enhance lip shape and volume.
2. How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
When placed beneath the skin, dermal fillers help restore volume and definition. In the lips, they may enhance contour, balance proportions, or support overall lip shape. The product is gradually broken down by the body over time.
3. What Can Lip Fillers Be Used For?
Lip fillers may assist in:
Enhancing lip volume
Improving lip definition and symmetry
Supporting natural proportions
Each treatment is tailored to the individual’s facial features and preferences, following a full consultation.
4. What Is Involved in the Procedure?
Initial Consultation: Dr Nathan Le will assess your medical history, facial structure, and goals to determine suitability.
Treatment: A local anaesthetic is used to help minimise discomfort. The filler is then injected using a fine needle. The procedure typically takes 15–30 minutes.
Aftercare: Mild swelling or bruising may occur and typically subsides within a few days. Visible results may settle further over 1–2 days.
5. How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?
Lip filler results are temporary and generally last between 3 and 12 months, depending on the product used, your metabolism, and other individual factors. Softer fillers may feel more natural but may also break down faster.
6. Who Is Suitable for Lip Filler?
Lip filler treatments are suitable for many adults; however, a personalised consultation is required to assess your individual circumstances.
Lip fillers are not recommended for individuals who:
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to ingredients in the filler
Have current infections, inflammation, or skin conditions near the treatment area
7. Are There Any Side Effects?
Temporary side effects may include:
Swelling
Redness
Tenderness
Mild bruising or itching
These usually resolve within a few days. Swelling may be more noticeable in the first 24–48 hours following lip enhancement.
